About ScrapThat
We have created ScrapThat for a variety of reasons, but our main driver is to create awareness of the environmental importance of the scrap metal recycling industry and to increase responsible recycling rates across the UK , all while saving vast amounts of Co2 in the process!
We also recognize that times are tough for many families out there at the moment, and being able to get some extra money for items around the house that are no longer working or needed could be helpful to many.
Many people are not aware of the value in metals and often items are discarded in the bin or at the local tip.
While the local tip is the right place for metals to be disposed at, not all metals that go through tips are able to be recovered and recycled once they are mixed, and thus some does unfortunately end up in landfill.
All Metals received by us will be graded by their analysis and recycled responsibly, without any of it going into landfill. All metals, when recycled responsibly, can be turned into something new over and over again! And at much lower cost to the environment too!
Have a look under our CO2 savings tab to find out more.
Current metal prices allow us to offer prices per kilo that make it worthwhile sending metals via post, while leaving a profit for yourself even after the courier cost is deducted. This profit naturally varies depending on the weight and metal or cables you are sending. Within out app use our easy calculator to see how much you could make.
Within our app you will find a helpful guide and pictures of everyday items that we can buy.
There are also many videos on YouTube explaining the differences between metals and how to identify scrap metal grades.
The only metals we can’t currently pay for are Steel and Iron. This is because the value per kilo is so low, that the cost of the courier per kilo would be greater than what we would be able to pay you per kilo. So while we CAN accept Steel and Iron scrap and dispose it responsibly for you, it would leave you with a cost, resulting in you paying to dispose of it which is unnecessary. Local tips are easily able to sort ferrous metals (steel and iron) from general waste via magnets, so it is much less likely to end up in landfill!
We hope you are as excited about our App, saving CO2 and making money as we are!
